Lift Truck Components in More Detail
A lift truck is constructed from thousands of parts. The main components that make up a lift truck are the frame of the truck, the engine components, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. Additionally, a forklift has various kinds of attachments. All the components that make up a forklift are of equal importance because they work together to make the equipment's operation possible. The subsequent paragraphs describe a few of the forklift components in detail.
The Overhead Guard - The overhead guard is actually the lift truck's metal roof, which sits atop the operator cab. It's job is to protect the operator whilst they are utilizing the machinery. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck would harm the operator or damage the controls inside the cab. The overhead guard is integral to the frame assembly on some models.
The Mast - the mast is a vertical assembly made of interlocking rails and mounted either to the forklift frame or the front axle. The mast provides lateral stability and allows the forks to move upwards and down. The interlocking rails may either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast may be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Forklift Carriage - the forks and different other types of attachments are mounted to the carriage. The carriage is attached to the mast directly to the hydraulic cylinder or it is connected by chains. To be able to enable the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage may have either rollers or bushings to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - When the carriage is raised to full height, there is a back rest made of metal which keeps a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.
Forklift Attachments - There are various kinds of attachments that can be fixed directly to the forklifts carriage. Forks are the most common attachment. In addition, there are rotators, rollers, L-shaped members, pole handlers, roll clamps and so on. These various types of attachments are handy for transporting various types of loads.
